Masafumi Shiomitsu naît le 24 novembre 1940 à Kagoshima (Japon).

Il débute le Karaté à l'âge de 15 ans par le Shorin Ryu. Il découvre le Wado Ryu à 18 ans. A l'université de Nihon, il s'entraîne avec les Maîtres Mano et Tanabe.

Après avoir séjourné en Angleterre, puis en France, en Espagne et à Madagascar, il s'installe définitivement en Angleterre en 1976.

Maître Hironori Ohtsuka l'a nommé son représentant pour l'Europe pour, je cite "Le Karaté Wado Ryu, ne sois pas dévoyé

Bien que 9ème dan Hanshi, il préfère porter la ceinture blanche pour, je cite "être comme un débutant qui absorbe tout autour de lui".

Il a formé de nombreux élèves de part le Monde, et notamment Ticky Donovan, entraîneur de l'équipe de Grande-Bretagne et l'Anglais Jeff Thompson, champion du Monde.

L’Histoire de Masafumi Shiomitsu
1940 Née le 24 novembre à Kagoshima, Japon.
1955 Débute le karaté avec le karaté Shorin Ryu avec un professeur local.
1959 S’en va à l’université Nihon et devient membre de l’école de karaté Wado-Ryu de l’endroit.
1962 Devient le leader de l’équipe japonnaise qui gagna le championnat 'Zen Nihon Wado Ryu' (règlement ‘All Japan Wado Ryu’).
1963 Devient officiellement le capitaine de l’équipe de karaté de l’université de Nihon.
1964 Gradué en économie de l’université. Gradé 4e Dan en karaté Wado Ryu.
1965 Désigné comme Instructeur en chef de l’Angleterre.
1969 Instructeur de l’Espagne et de la France.
1972 Désigné comme instructeur au Madagascar.
C'est là bas que les frères Ramanbanzafy apprirent le Karaté, C'est pourquoi d'ailleurs que dans le Wado ryu il y a une grosse communauté de malgache qui pour la plupart sont venus en france,
1976 Revient à sa ville d’origine l’Angleterre.
1981 Revient au Japon pour célébrer le 90e anniverssaire d’Hironori Otsuka Sensei, et reçoit son 7e dan de lui.
1983 Instructeur officiel de l’Europe pour les organisations de karaté Wado-Ryu, Vice-président pour le Wado-Kai Européen.
1989 Fonda le ‘Wado Ryu Karate Do Academy’.

Sensei Shiomitsu is the founder and Chief Instructor of the Wado-Ryu Karate-Do Academy, and recognised world-wide as a great authority on Karate. He is based in London, England, but spends much of his time instructing at Wado-Ryu karate clubs all over the world, including European countries, the USA and Australia. He also conducts a number of instructors courses and is always present at the Dan gradings which take place at the summer and winter courses organised by the Wado-Ryu Academy.
The Wado-Ryu Karate-Do Association is fortunate enough to have Sensei Shiomitsu visit every six months for weekend training courses. These courses are attended by karate students of all styles of karate from all over Europe. Students of the Wado-Ryu Karate-Do Association are encouraged to attend these training courses whenever possible, as it is virtually impossible to come away from such courses without having learned a great deal. Wado-Ryu Karate-Do Academy
The Wado-Ryu Karate-Do Academy was formed by Sensei Shiomitsu. His intention was to de-politicise Wado-Ryu Karate. He wanted students to practise Wado-Ryu according to its true spirit. In order to achieve this end, he enabled students to join the Wado Academy in a variety of ways. Students can either become members of just the Wado Academy or they can become members of the Wado Academy and belong to another Karate organisation. Furthermore, he also decided that organisations practising Wado Karate could join the Wado Academy – as an affiliated group.

2nd February, 2003 - the 2002 Wado-Ryu Karate-Do Academy Championships were held in Stroud, Gloucestershire, after being delayed from the previous year.
4th March, 2000 - the Wado-Ryu Karate-Do Academy held the Millennium Championships in Guildford, England. There is a championship report, with full results tables, and photographs from the competition, and the Winter Course, in this site.

Biography
Sensei Shiomitsu was born in Kagoshima, Japan, on 24th November 1940. He began studying Shorin Ryu karate at the age of 15. He entered Nihon University in 1959 and joined the Wado-Ryu karate club, one of the university clubs that Ohtsuka Sensei taught at. His prowess at the style led to his appointment as the captain of the university's karate team in 1963. By the time he graduated in 1964, with a degree in economics, he had already reached the grade of 4th Dan in Wado-Ryu.

Sensei Shiomitsu's natural ability at Wado-Ryu led to him being chosen by Ohtsuka Sensei as one of the karate instructors chosen to take Wado-Ryu karate outside of Japan. In 1965 Sensei Shiomitsu travelled to England, where he was appointed assistant Chief Instructor. He then spent the next 10 years visiting and staying in different countries throughout the world, including Spain, Portugal and even Madagascar, teaching Wado-Ryu karate. In 1976 he returned to England in his original position.

In 1981 Sensei Shiomitsu returned to Japan to celebrate the 90th birthday of Ohtsuka Sensei, the founder of Wado-Ryu karate. He was awarded the rank of 7th Dan by Ohtsuka. This was later followed by Sensei Shiomitsu's appointment as the Chief Instructor to the European Wado-Ryu Karate organisations, and in 1989 he founded the Wado-Ryu Academy.
